Most shops are closed until 3rd of January, and most companies are closed until 5th this year, but major department stores and shopping centers are open from January 2nd.

Many people like to buy what we call “Fukubukuro”, Happy bags or Lucky bags, because they contain the things of twice, three time, or 4 or 5 times as much price as proper one.

There are Fukubukuro of clothes, jewelry, sweets, food, and many other things.

Traditionally, we couldn’t see inside until some years ago, but these days, there are samples to show inside, but not always.

Of course, not all of them are their favorite, but people who like Fukubukuro say, they don’t care.

It may be good for providing souvenirs, but you should be in big cities in Japan on January 2nd.

Kitabatake Park

I introduced Abeno Shrine on July 13, 2011. Kitabatake Akiie and his father Kitabatake Chikafusa are enshrined.

They dedicated to Emperor Godaigo, and fought for South Court in 14th century.

Kitabatake Park is a very small park. It’s on Abeno-suji, and is in southern part of Abeno-ku.

What is special about Kitabatake Park is there is Kitabatake Akiie’s tomb.

It's the season of persimmons

Many people in Japan like to have persimmon trees in their gardens.
Even in a big city like Osaka, you can see persimmon trees here and there.
Now is the season of fruits of persimmons.

You should eat persimmons from fruit shops or markets, or else, it could be too bitter if you take one of these.

Matsumushi and Abeno Harukas

I used to get off at Matsumushi Station of Hankai Uemachi Line to go to learn English Conversation long long time ago.

I found a new small park close to the Station. It looks like a brand new park.

Nobody's there. It's too hot and humid in Osaka now.

Habeno Harukas, the view from Matsumushi Station, now it's officially the tallest building in Japan.

What is Abeno Harukas?

It’s the name of the new building which is now being built.
It’s going to be the tallest building in Japan in 2014.

Abeno Area is under the construction all over, except, Q’s Mall is completed.
New pedestrian bridges between Tennoji and Abeno are almost done, hopefully.

I think the illumination of Abeno Hoop is getting more and more sophisticated year by year.

This year, there is Moomin’s family!

Do you know Moomin?
He is from Finland, and from the Finnish writer, Tove Jansson’s story. Actually, it was animated and the anime “Moomin” was first broadcast in Japan in 1969. Since then, Moomin and his family and friends are popular characters in Japan.

Merry Christmas!

Moving is tiring, and I am still tired. But I am happy with my brand-new work place.

By the way, Typhoon Talas brought scary rain in Osaka, but fortunately, not as much as mountain areas of neighboring Nara and Wakayama Prefectures and Mie Prefecture. A lot of concerns are needed in these areas.

It was still rainy occasionally on September 5.

Here are some photos I took at Tennoji Ekimae Station of Hankai Uemachi Line on September 5.

A Tram was working for a campaign.

Abe Oji Shrine and Abe no Seimei Shrine are between Kumano Road and Abeno-suji Avenue. These two shrines are close to each other.

On July 27, and 28, the summer festival is held at these two shines. So now, it is being held.

On Abeno-suji Avenue, there are row of numbers of stands.

There is a long line….

for Japanese style shaved ice.

On Kumano road as well,

there are a lot of stands.

Yummy? Looks like it is.

Abeno Hoop and ”&”

Abeno Q‘s Mall is a new shopping area in Abeno – Tennoji Area.

It’s getting popular, but there are even more fashionable places that a lot of young people go to just across from Q’s Mall.

One is Hoop. In the basement, there are a lot of nice restaurants. There are elegant brand shops, casual shops, a book store, and a CD store.

If you are lucky, you can see the live concerts.

Between Hoop and "&"(and), there is a small café.

This is "&". And. Japanese pronunciation is “Ando”.

Looks like it has some European stores in "&".

There are Japanese stores as well.

It has some nice small cafes too!
