This year, for cherry blossom season, I went to the river bank called “Sewari-tei” . It is in Yawata City in Kyoto prefecture, and it’s around the border between Kyoto Prefecture and Osaka Prefecture.

Three rivers, the Katsura, the Uji, and the Kizu join around this bank.

Amazingly, there are about 250 cherry trees, about 1.4 kilometers long , and cherry blossoms were in full bloom when I went there.

It’s about 10 minute walk from Yawata-shi Station on Keihan Line.

Highly recommended!!

Mandai-ike Pond are surrounded by cherry trees.
People used to enjoy barbecue when the blossoms blooming until recently, but now barbecuing is prohibited.

Yet a lot of local people enjoy the cherry blossoms here at the pond.

There are only a few trees whose blossoms are in bloom, but most of them will bloom fully in a few days.

Three years ago, I introduced about the azaleas in the water purification plant of Sakai Municipal Government (Asakayama Johsuijo) at the shore of the Yamato River.

Wakayama Castle

e0046748_142844.jpg

I went to Wakayama.
e0046748_142482.jpg

Wakayama Castle was not my plan, but the cherry blossoms were so beautiful that I went into the gate.

It was built by Toyotomi family in 1585, but one of Tokugawa families lived here. My favorite 8th Shogun, Yoshimune was from here in Kishu, Wakayama.

This may be the remain of the gorgeous garden.

In Japan, between April 29 and May 5, there are lots of National Holidays and this period of time is called “Golden Week”. Many people go out of the country, or go out of their own cities and enjoy their trips.

Me? Well, I had to catch up the housekeeping things that I could not get done, so I mostly stayed home. I enjoyed staying home. Really.

Here are some pictures of flowers that I took just before Golden Week at Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine. It was quiet.

Actually, I hate going out during this kind of holiday season, so I prefer not to go out.
Even Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine is crowded.

Not so far from Abiko Station of subway Midosuji Line, there is OhYosami Shrine.

e0046748_1823261.jpg

This shrine is very old, as old as Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine, and started probably around 1800 years ago.

This monument shows that there used to be a beautiful pond.

It is not so well-known, but there are beautiful cherry blossoms along its approach.

Now is the time for cherry blossoms. It is later than usual because of unusual cold winter.

Here are the pictures of cherry blossoms at Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine today.

It's the rainy season now. Rain is not always pleasant, but hydrangeas bloom beautifully in this season.
