Ikune Shrine

e0046748_19365069.jpg

There is another small shrine near Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine.
e0046748_19371942.jpg

Like other small shrines in Osaka, it is unknown when this shrine was established.
e0046748_19374657.jpg

It could be as old as Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine.

e0046748_19381386.jpg

The current main building was built around 1600, which was dedicated by Yodo-gimi, one of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s wives.

Shihatsu-michi, Sumiyoshi Road

e0046748_1655617.jpg

On June 17, last year, I introduced Sumiyoshi Road as an approach for pilgrimage to Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine.

(A liquor store which has vending machines)

I have found possible historical evidence. It has not perfectly proven yet, but it is very probable fact; the Road “Shihatsu-michi” existed in 5th century, and this Sumiyoshi Road is the starting area.

In 5th century, Suminoe-tsu, or Suminoe Port, which is now in front of Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine, was a very international port where people and immigrants coming from the continent arrived, and they used this road to the Imperial Court in Asuka in Nara Prefecture.

Shihatsu-michi went straight to Asuka, and it was like a highway. Nagai Koen-dori (Nagai Park Street) has remnant of those days.

Snow in Osaka

We don’t have much snow in Osaka. It snows but it isn’t usually accumulated. But it snowed and it was accumulated.

Voila!
e0046748_1633952.jpg

This has been very cold winter.

Today’s Lunch from Yaroku

I felt like I go to the soba restaurant too often, so I decided to eat famous Korokke (croquette) of Yaroku for lunch.

Yaroku is a restaurant that serves good Korokke, located near Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine. It is famous but I had never tried yet.

They have a branch shop for takeout so I started from their lunch box, o-bento.

e0046748_20151727.jpg

Their specialty is Tamago Korokke (egg croquette). I was so hungry that I got 945yen lunch combo C (C Bento), which contains Tamago Korokke, pork cutlet, salad, and rice.

e0046748_20154584.jpg

Outside the Korokke is crunchy, and the inside is creamy.
e0046748_201631.jpg

You can buy a piece of Tamago Korokke for 199 yen.

Winter Flowers, Sazanka

e0046748_15143017.jpg

Now is the final stage of sazankas.
e0046748_1515362.jpg

“Sazanka” (Camellia sasanqua) is a Japanese flower which blooms in winter time.

There are short ones,
e0046748_1515318.jpg

Tall ones.
e0046748_15155011.jpg

There were white ones too, but I missed the chance to take a picture.

You can see them in front of many houses.

Abiko Kannon Temple

e0046748_19332965.jpg

Abiko Kannon Temple was founded in 546 A.D and is the oldest Kannon temples in Japan. It is said that Prince Shotoku funded to build this temple.
e0046748_19334974.jpg

On February 3rd, this temple exhibits its statue of Kannon. There are lots of visitors, stands and stalls on this day every year.

e0046748_1934365.jpg

From February 1st to 7th, there are events of “Yakubarai”, which means getting rid of evil spirits, there are many visitors coming.
e0046748_19345710.jpg
e0046748_1935697.jpg

But especially on February 3rd, this temple gets lively.

You will see the arrows to show the direction to Abiko Kannon Temple around this area during this period.
e0046748_1936079.jpg

Many people buy “Yakuyoke Manju” (sweets for getting rid of evil spirits) for their souvenirs.

If you visit Sumiyoshi-ku in Osaka City you may notice that there are several stations whose names have “Abiko”. Once I was asked where Abiko-cho Station was near Abiko-michi Station. Abiko-cho Station is about 30 minutes walk away from Abiko-michi Station. If you mistakenly take the wrong train to go to Abiko-something, you have to walk, walk, and walk.

There is a road called “Abiko-michi”. This is a road for pilgrimage to Abiko Kannon Temple.

“Abiko-something” is very confusing. I will show you all “Abiko-something” stations and a bus stop.

This is Abiko-michi Station of “famous” Hankai Line.
e0046748_1758647.jpg
e0046748_17581717.jpg

Go through this Abiko-michi Shopping Street.
e0046748_17584120.jpg

You will find the bus stop “Abiko-michi” of Osaka City Bus.
e0046748_1759617.jpg
e0046748_17592369.jpg

After you cross Kumano Road, you will reach to Abiko-mae Station of Nankai Koya Line.
e0046748_17594679.jpg
e0046748_17595628.jpg

e0046748_1844076.jpg

Walk to the east anyway. You will see the post office.
e0046748_182599.jpg

and then there is an elevated Abiko-cho Station of JR Hanwa Line.
e0046748_1834530.jpg
e0046748_1835449.jpg

This is a shopping area near Abioko-cho Station and Abiko Kannon Temple.
e0046748_1853326.jpg

Then go toward Abiko Avenue. There are entries to go down to “Abiko” Station of Subway Midosuji Line.
e0046748_188159.jpg
e0046748_1882774.jpg

Abiko Station is only for Subway Midosuji Line. If it is Abiko-something Station, you’ve got to be careful!!!
